DESCRIPTION:Hosted by the National Organization of Minority Architects\, Portland Chapter (NOMA PDX) \nNOMA PDX wrapped up another successful Project Pipeline Architecture + Design Justice Summer Camp where middle school students learned the fundamentals of architecture and community based design and applied their knowledge to design spaces and places to live\, learn\, gather\, recreate\, play and heal for the Cully residents and community. Student work will be exhibited at OMSI in the Empirical Hall until July 6th. SUMMARY:Architects in Schools Summer Camp
DESCRIPTION:Join us June 24-28\, 2024\, for our annual Architects in Schools Summer Camp! The virtual camp is free and designed for youth ages 8-12. Register by 5pm PT on June 14 to participate. \nCAMP THEME:\nThis year’s camp theme is Be a Changemaker: How design transforms our communities. During this camp\, students will learn about the benefits of adaptive reuse and how the built environment must evolve with cultural\, societal\, and environmental changes. They will take on the role of an architect and builder to redesign a structure for their community. By implementing the design process\, students will become changemakers! Students will be introduced to technical architecture practices such as drawing\, planning\, model making and more. \nHOW IT WORKS:\nThe camp is entirely virtual – meaning students can participate from home. To engage in the camp\, participants will need a computer\, tablet\, or other device with access to internet. \nEvery day\, we will email you the digital lesson including hands-on design activities\, reading\, thinking exercises\, and pre-recorded videos. There will also be a live Zoom session every day from 12:30-1:30pm PT. The live sessions are optional but highly recommended so students can meet practicing architects and designers and fully experience the camp content. \nDAILY SCHEDULE: \n\nWork through the Daily Lesson PDF that is emailed to you the evening prior to each day of camp\nWatch the Pre-recorded Videos\nStart on activities in your Student Architect Journal\nJoin us for a Live Zoom Activity from 12:30-1:30pm PT\nGo back to your Student Architect Journal and complete the activities for the day\nComplete the Bonus Challenge if you want to do more!\n\nACCESSING FREE ART SUPPLIES:\nWe will mail free art supplies to participants located in Oregon who are experiencing financial barriers. Please specify on your registration form if you need supplies sent to you. See the recommended list of art supplies. Supply requests are due by June 7.  \nSUPPORT THE CAMP:\nParticipation in the camp is free. We are accepting donations so we can send camp materials to families who have barriers to accessing them. This will allow all children to participate regardless of need.
