DESCRIPTION:Hosted by AFO and AIA Oregon\, the Design Advocacy Outreach Group (DAO-G) meets quarterly with the mission of increasing student access to architecture\, engineering\, construction\, and design (AECD) fields in the state of Oregon. As a group of local partners who are aligned around this shared mission\, DAO-G meetings are a time for us to harness this network to share opportunities for students\, volunteer needs\, resources\, outreach efforts\, and more. \nWondering if you’re the right fit? Visitors will embark on a tour of Michael Curry’s studio\, including an hour-long viewing of their design and fabrication process. After the tour\, attendees will convene at the Lodge Carts to enjoy refreshments and hear about the collaborative vision for Keller Auditorium with John Russell and Michael Curry. \nFor 35 years\, Michael Curry Design has been a leader in entertainment and attractions around the world\, creating some of the most iconic forms of puppetry\, set design\, and spectacle. Their in-house design and production teams are made up of over 50 highly specialized artists\, designers\, technical consultants\, and fabricators. This award-winning multidisciplinary team is sought out by the world’s foremost entertainment companies\, including The Walt Disney Company\, Universal\, Wynn Resorts\, Metropolitan Opera\, Cirque du Soleil\, as well as Olympic and Super Bowl Ceremonies. \nMichael Curry Design operates within a 60\,000 square foot production facility specifically designed to service custom theatrics. SUMMARY:Architects in Schools Summer Camp
DESCRIPTION:Join us June 23-27\, 2025\, for our annual Architects in Schools Summer Camp! The virtual camp is designed for youth ages 8-12. Register by 5pm PT on June 13 to participate. \nCAMP THEME:\nThis year’s camp theme is Our Future Together: City Design Adventure. During this camp\, students will learn about what contributes to a thriving community\, and how empathy and inclusion can lead our design when building a city of the future. They will take on the role of a design and building professional to plan and design their future city with their community\, resiliency\, and sustainability in mind. By implementing the design process\, students will be empowered to lend their voices to create a better future for all! Students will be introduced to technical architecture practices such as drawing\, planning\, model making\, and more. \nHOW IT WORKS:\nThe camp is entirely virtual – meaning students can participate from home. To engage in the camp\, participants will need a computer\, tablet\, or other device with access to internet. \nEvery day\, we will email you the digital lesson including hands-on design activities\, reading\, thinking exercises\, and pre-recorded videos. There will also be a live Zoom session every day from 12:30-1:30pm PT. The live sessions are optional but highly recommended so students can meet practicing architects and designers and fully experience the camp content. \nDAILY SCHEDULE: \n\nWork through the Daily Lesson PDF that is emailed to you the evening prior to each day of camp\nWatch the Pre-recorded Videos\nStart on activities in your Student Architect Journal\nJoin us for a Live Zoom Activity from 12:30-1:30pm PT\nGo back to your Student Architect Journal and complete the activities for the day\nComplete the Bonus Challenge if you want to do more!\n\nACCESSING FREE ART SUPPLIES:\nWe will mail art supplies to participants located in Oregon. Boxes of supplies will be $25 for those able to pay\, but will be available at no cost to those who are experiencing financial barriers. Please fill out this supply box request form and select to pay if you are able. See the recommended list of art supplies. Supply requests are due by June 6.  \nCOST:\nWe recommend a participation fee of $25/child.
