SUMMARY:2026 NSBE Portland Professionals Scholarship
DESCRIPTION:2026 NSBE Portland Professionals Scholarship\nOrganized by NSBE Portland Professionals \nThe National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) Portland Professionals is excited to offer our fifth year of annual scholarships. We will award four (4) academic scholarships in the amount of $2\,000 each to eligible high school graduates and college students. Our mission is to increase the number of culturally responsible Black Engineers who excel academically\, succeed professionally and positively impact the community. \n\n\nSCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION CRITERA\n\n1. Applicant must be a high school graduate.\n2. Applicant must be enrolled or recently accepted to an accredited college.\n3. Applicant must submit one (1) letter of recommendation.\n4. Have lived in Oregon/Vancouver\, WA (Metro Region) OR attend college in Oregon.\n5. Applicant must identify as Black / African American.\n6. Applicant should have an interest or currently majoring in a STEM field: science\, technology\, engineering\, or mathematical degree. \nNOTE: While we acknowledge AI’s advances in technology and innovation\, it will not be accepted for this scholarship. All applications will be checked with an AI screen to ensure authenticity. \nScholarship awardees will be asked to provide college registrar verification for Fall 2025 Term. DESCRIPTION:2026 High School Summer Internship\nOrganized by NSBE Portland Professionals \nThe National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) Portland Professionals is excited to offer our fourth high school internship experience for Summer 2026. We have three internships available\, thanks to our incredible hosts: Wallis Engineering\, PAE\, TBD. \nStudents will be paid ($18/hr) during their internship and receive a stipend to cover transportation (via gas gift card or Uber gift card). \n*Please note that applying does not guarantee an internship due to a limited number of host companies* \nSome host firms will require a resume\, interview\, or meet and greet to confirm placement\, but will be dependent on the firm. DESCRIPTION:You are invited to an event celebrating the hard work of our 2025-26 Architects in Schools students in the Portland Metro area! This is our culminating event of the season\, where participating students exhibit the work they have completed during their Architects in Schools residencies. \nThis Architects in Schools season was another huge success\, reaching thousands of students across the state of Oregon. Over 150 design and building professionals have spent over 3\,000 volunteer hours in classrooms this year\, educating students on the built environment and the process of designing and building communities. \nStudent work will be exhibited at Opsis Architecture on May 21 from 5:30-7:30pm. DESCRIPTION:A4LE 2026 Scholarship\nOrganized by A4LE \n2026 Scholarship Award\nThe Oregon / SW Washington Chapter Scholarship is a needs and merit-based scholarship program designed for students who seek financial support for their pursuit of post-secondary educational opportunities. \nQualifications: \n\nThe candidate shall be a graduating high school student in the state of Oregon or Southwest Washington region.\nThe candidate shall display engagement with and/or service to those around them in school\, community\, family and/or employment.\nThe candidate must be accepted into a post-secondary educational program following their graduation\, (i.e.: university\, technical school\, community college\, etc.)\, and pursuing a field of study that aligns with A4LE’s mission\, vision\, and core values. Eligible areas of study include Architecture\, Engineering (Mechanical\, Electrical\, Civil\, Structural\, etc.)\, and other disciplines within the Architecture\, Engineering\, and Construction (AEC) industry. Related fields may also qualify\, such as Interior Design\, Industrial Design\, Construction Management\, Computer-Aided Design/Drafting\, and education degrees when they relate to building design\, construction\, or associated career paths.\nApplicants must meet at least one of these two requirements:\n\nHave participated in the A4LE SchoolsNEXT Design Competition in the state of Oregon or Southwest Washington.\nOR\nGraduate from a school district in Oregon or Southwest Washington that currently has a School District/Public Authority Membership with A4LE. Applicants that graduated from the following Oregon and Washington School Districts are eligible to apply:\n\nOregon City School District 62\nLake Oswego School District\n\n\n\n\nThe candidate will submit a personal and creative essay\, video\, digital resource\, etc. on the required Essay Subject:\n“There has been increasing evidence that the design and condition of an educational facility has a significant impact on the quality of education and a student’s ability to learn. Daylighting and views\, flexible spaces\, lighting\, acoustics\, technology\, access to the outdoors\, and air quality\, are just some of the design characteristics that have that impact. In 500 words or less\, describe how the design and condition of your high school facility has contributed to the quality of your education. Describe the changes to your high school facility that you would propose\, that if implemented\, would improve the quality of education for future students.”\n\nEvaluation Criteria: \n\n\n\nThe candidate will be evaluated based on the following scoring criteria:\n\n\nAcceptance into a post-secondary educational program that aligns with A4LE’s mission\, vision\, and core values following their graduation\nPass/Fail\n\n\nEngagement with and/or service to those around them in school\, community\, family and/or employment (Item 9 on application)\nMaximum Points\nAvailable: 35\n\n\nEssay Subject\nMaximum Points\nAvailable: 30\n\n\nQuestion Responses (Items 10 & 11 on application)\nMaximum Points\nAvailable: 35\n\n\nEvaluation Criteria Total\nTotal Points\nAvailable: 100\n\n\n\nAward Value:\nBased on available funding\, up to two (2) students will be selected as the recipients of a $5\,000 Scholarship (up to $10\,000 total awarded). All student scholarships will be sent directly to the financial aid or administration office of the higher education institution on behalf of the student. NO checks or funding will be sent directly to any student or individual. Please be sure to use your personal email (not student email in District) in the application so that we can ensure that the notification reaches you. \nDeadline for Submissions: May 22\, 2026. \nScholarship Award Process: \n\nThe School District shall distribute information on the scholarship to eligible students.\nThe Oregon / SW Washington A4LE Scholarship Committee will review the applications and make a recommendation on the award of the scholarship to A4LE International by June 19.
