DESCRIPTION:AFO Scholarships support future design and building professionals and encourage people from diverse backgrounds to participate in the process of designing and building our world. We currently award four scholarships for students studying design and building professions in Oregon. Learn more about AFO Scholarships. \nAttend one or both workshops to learn more about the following scholarships that are currently open for applications through February 25: \n\nHatfield Architectural Award: $5\,000 scholarship for undergraduate and graduate architecture students attending University of Oregon or Portland State University who express commitment to community service\nWilliam Hart Scholarship: $5\,000 scholarship for BIPOC Graduate and Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch) students entering their last year at University of Oregon or Portland State University (graduating in 2025)\nTsagaglalal (She Who Watches) Scholarship: Renewable $10\,000 scholarship for Native American\, Alaskan Native\, and Hawaiian Native non-graduating students pursuing a degree in Art or Architecture at Portland State University\n\nWhat to expect: During these workshops we will cover eligibility\, the application process\, and how to prepare a successful application. DESCRIPTION:The Architecture Foundation of Oregon (AFO) centers education and access for youth at the heart of our programming. We are excited to offer opportunities for design professionals\, educators\, youth organizers\, and more to receive training on trauma-informed practices and social/emotional learning. \nAFO believes that all adults working with youth have a responsibility to not create harm\, to give youth space to express their true selves\, to look to them as experts\, and to center them in our teaching and learning. AFO understands that these are skills that require ongoing learning and will help us be more empathetic and effective teachers\, mentors and leaders. \nPlease join us for a trauma-informed practices and social/emotional learning workshop. Facilitated by Dr. Renee Mitchell\, an educator\, writer\, poet and expert on these topics\, the workshops are intended to help prepare you and make you more comfortable working with youth from different backgrounds. DESCRIPTION:Image credit: Hennebery Eddy Architects\nStart your day with AFO! Join us at our first event of 2024 by exploring the new Multnomah County Library Operations Center. \nThe Operations Center is the heart of the library\, where every item placed on hold is sorted in addition to being the first stop for new books and materials. Plus\, items for outreach to schools\, shelters\, and more will be centered here. \nWith Hennebery Eddy Architects leading the design of the Operations Center\, and Fortis Construction as the General Contractor\, the building will provide a pathway to greater efficiency with sustainability at the core of the work. With plans for approximately 600 photovoltaic panels on the building’s rooftop\, the goal is to make this a net-zero energy building in addition to attaining LEED Gold certification. \nOn July 6\, 2022\, the library broke ground on the Operations Center\, celebrating the start of construction for this important building. DESCRIPTION:AFO Scholarships support future design and building professionals and encourage people from diverse backgrounds to participate in the process of designing and building our world. We currently award four scholarships for students studying design and building professions in Oregon. Learn more about AFO Scholarships. \nAttend one or both workshops to learn more about the following scholarships that are currently open for applications through February 25: \n\nHatfield Architectural Award: $5\,000 scholarship for undergraduate and graduate architecture students attending University of Oregon or Portland State University who express commitment to community service\nWilliam Hart Scholarship: $5\,000 scholarship for BIPOC Graduate and Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch) students entering their last year at University of Oregon or Portland State University (graduating in 2025)\nTsagaglalal (She Who Watches) Scholarship: Renewable $10\,000 scholarship for Native American\, Alaskan Native\, and Hawaiian Native non-graduating students pursuing a degree in Art or Architecture at Portland State University\n\nWhat to expect: During these workshops we will cover eligibility\, the application process\, and how to prepare a successful application. Attendees will receive tips and feedback on scholarship essays\, portfolios/work samples\, and more. You are welcome to attend one or both workshops and don’t need to attend the first workshop to attend the second.
