Please explore the ASE Experience and the Application Guide in the meantime. \nRegister in advance for this meeting (required): ZOOM Registration \nAfter registering\, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting. \nWe look forward to seeing you there! \nTo be eligible to apply students must: \n\nHave not been an ASE intern before. A student may only have one ASE internship during their high school career. This is to ensure that more students are able to participate in the ASE program.\nBe a rising 10th\, 11th\, or 12th grader (or equivalent).\nBe interested in pursuing a career in math and science\, motivated to learn\, and prepared to participate in a professional environment.\nLive near our internship locations (usually in the Portland-Metro area\, and the Albany/Corvallis/Eugene areas) OR have adult family or friends that you can live with during the summer near our internship locations. (ASE does not provide housing for students and does not allow students to live on their own.) If you apply for positions that are greater than 50 miles from your home address or local address provided on your online application\, ASE will remove your application from those positions\, even if the position is virtual\, because all students are required to attend one in-person ASE event.\nRegardless of internship type (in-person or online)\, ASE is unable to support international applicants at this time.\nHave reliable transportation to and from our internship locations. Metro is teaming up with Next Up and Blueprint Foundation to recruit 20 youth to help develop the Future Vision for the region. \nThe committee will help shape the direction of the vision while deepening their civic leadership skills and engaging with other youth and community members along the way. \nThe Future Vision will create a foundation of shared values to guide regional programs\, plans and policies in the future. It will touch on a wide range of topics\, including land use\, transportation\, our economy\, housing\, climate\, nature\, arts and culture. \nQualifications\nThis opportunity is for youth between 16 and 24 years old who live\, work\, go to school or spend a lot of time in Clackamas\, Multnomah or Washington County. \nNo previous knowledge in the topics of housing\, economy\, climate\, nature\, arts and culture is required\, however related lived experience\, passion or interest is a plus. The curriculum will include support and education needed to meaningfully participate. \nApplicants should have an interest in any of the following: \n\nCreating a positive future for your community\nPushing your imagination beyond its limits\nBecoming the best future ancestor you can be\nImproving access to housing and jobs\, supporting the local economy\, protecting nature\, addressing climate change\, increasing transportation options\, arts and culture\, or education\nSharing your ideas with others\, including fellow community leaders and elected officials\nCreating art to connect with others and express your ideas\nLearning how to get answers and advocate for yourself\n\nAccommodations for language or ADA accessibility will be provided as needed. \nTime commitment and stipend\nAlongside the Future Vision Commission\, the Future Vision Youth Committee will oversee the project through its completion in 2027 and provide recommendations to Metro Council and project staff. \n\nMeetings are expected to be between 2-3 hours.\nMeetings will take place 1-2 times per month from February 2026 and February 2027. DESCRIPTION:NBI Next Gen Mentoring Program – Application Deadline\nWhat is Next Gen?\nNext Gen is a professional development program offered by New Buildings Institute since 2021 to prepare students for careers in energy and green buildings\, with a particular focus on participants from communities historically underrepresented in the building industry. Next Gen fosters the next generation of diverse buildings industry leaders\, empowering them to use their perspectives and identities to make a difference. Over the course of the program\, students will work with each other as part of a cohort and benefit from resume building\, professional certifications\, interview practice\, one-on-one mentorship\, sponsored conference attendance\, networking\, and more.  \nSince its inception\, Next Gen has served over 110 students from 23 states\, Canada\, and England. Nearly 70% of the students identified as women or nonbinary and 70% identified as people of color.  \nApplications for the 2026 Next Gen Cohort are now open. Your support makes it possible for us to ensure this impactful program can continue to support students\, now and in the future. \n\nIndustry in Transition\nAlthough clean energy jobs are outpacing the rest of the economy in job growth\, women and communities of color remain underrepresented. The National Institute of Building Sciences (NIBS) 2023 Built Environment Workforce Survey  found a lack of minority and female employees in the sector – only 18% of respondents identified as people of color and 31% as female.  The Next Gen program gives diverse future building sector leaders the knowledge\, resources\, and relationships to succeed as they begin their careers. By positioning participants to have a seat at the table\, Next Gen helps ensure ALL people can access and benefit from building efficiency and electrification measures. Next Gen alumni have gone on to engineering graduate degrees\, careers in construction and building design\, and more. We need a more diverse building workforce. Next Gen is part of the solution.  \n\nWhat Does the Program Look Like?\nThe Next Gen program year begins with orientation in March\, followed by the first group meeting in April\, and program activities through December. DESCRIPTION:Apprenticeships in science and engineering (ASE) Program\nHosted by Saturday Academy \nThe 2026 ASE Application is OPEN NOW and closes March 6th at 11:59 pm. \nThe Apprenticeships in STEAM Exploration (ASE) program connects motivated high school students with mentors in science\, technology\, engineering and math (STEM) pre-professional internships. The driving value behind the ASE program is that the interns should contribute to and learn from the mentor’s work. \nInternships are four to eight week\, part-time or full-time summer positions\, designed by mentors themselves. These internships take place in the Portland and Corvallis areas\, and historically Vancouver\, Eugene\, Bend\, Klamath Falls\, Colton\, and McMinnville. Mentor organizations include universities\, hospitals and research institutions and private companies. The application process is competitive\, with more than 400 applicants each year for under 100 positions.
