SUMMARY:Trauma Workshop (2 of 3) with Renee Mitchell
DESCRIPTION:Workshop 2 of 3*\nThursday\, April 18\, 4:00-6:00pm\, Zoom \nThe Architecture Foundation of Oregon (AFO) centers education and access for youth at the heart of our programming. We are excited to offer opportunities for design professionals\, educators\, youth organizers\, and more to receive training on trauma-informed practices and social/emotional learning. \nAFO believes that all adults working with youth have a responsibility to not create harm\, to give youth space to express their true selves\, to look to them as experts\, and to center them in our teaching and learning. AFO understands that these are skills that require ongoing learning and will help us be more empathetic and effective teachers\, mentors and leaders. \nPlease join us for a trauma-informed practices and social/emotional learning workshop. Facilitated by Dr. Renee Mitchell\, an educator\, writer\, poet and expert on these topics\, the workshops are intended to help prepare you and make you more comfortable working with youth from different backgrounds. All are welcome. \n*This workshop is the second of a three part series to support ongoing learning. You will receive access to a recording of the first workshop upon registration\, and can look forward to a third workshop on June 11. You do not need to have attended the first workshop to participate. \nPLEASE NOTE: All current AFO volunteers\, board members\, and 2023-2024 Architects in Schools participants have free access to this workshop. Please contact candice@af-oregon.org if you are a current volunteer and have not received the Zoom link. \nRegister\nThursday\, April 18\, 4:00-6:00pm\, Zoom \n$20 (Limited scholarships available – contact candice@af-oregon.org if you would like to request a scholarship)

SUMMARY:In Pursuit of an Equitable Workplace
DESCRIPTION:Firms are striving for equity and inclusion in the workplace for many reasons: to ensure a sense of belonging for their employees\, to attract talent that expands the firm’s offerings\, and to compete in a marketplace that demands inclusivity. What certifications or frameworks should leadership pursue? How does accountability factor in months or years after goals have been set? Is tracking and reporting cumbersome to the work? \nAFO’s panel of experienced leaders will discuss the implications for architecture firms exploring these questions. We will specifically focus on JUST\, B-Corp\, and the NOMA PDX Call to Action\, including stories of realities versus expectations\, challenges and benefits\, and key learnings. \nHosted at PAE’s Living Building\, this discussion is not to be missed! \nPanelists:\n\nRebecca Goldcrump (she/her)\, CEO\, The Impact Collective\nLisa Sato (she/her) OAA\, NOMA\, Project Designer\, Carleton Hart Architecture\nAbby Dacey (she/her) AIA\, LEED AP BD+C\, Principal\, Mahlum Architects\nModerated by Hannah Silver (she/her) WELL AP\, LEED AP Homes\, EcoDistricts AP\, Fitwel Ambassador\, Inclusive Design Facilitator\, Holst Architecture\n\nRegister\nIn Pursuit of an Equitable Workplace\nTuesday\, April 30\, 5:30-7:00pm\nPAE Living Building\n151 SW 1st Ave\, Portland\, 97204 \nThis event is free to AFO members including current Architects in Schools volunteers.
