SUMMARY:Dine & Design: Bubbles and Bites in Council Crest
DESCRIPTION:Photo credit: Katheryn Sink @sink.stills\nHosted by Larissa Kirovski\, Risa Boyer Architecture\, Don Tankersley Construction \nJoin us for mingling and inspiration at the Kirovski residence while sampling tasty hors d’oeuvres\, wine and champagne. \nYou’ll find endless ingenuity in this gorgeous light filled and elegantly crafted new home perched at the top of an oversized lot on the east side of Council Crest. The home balances refined design details and natural materials with high performance building techniques. The exterior of the home is wrapped in brick and stained cedar tongue and groove with a large black steel box hovering over the garage creating a second-floor flexible family space. \nOn the interior\, hand troweled plaster walls\, heated terrazzo floors\, and oiled white oak cabinetry pair with triple glazed windows to create a comfortable and serene environment. \nA geothermal system heat pump feeds the hydronic radiant floor\, capable of heating and cooling\, as well as the hydronic fan coils for supplemental heating and cooling. Solar panels offset electrical loads and battery walls provide backup when the power goes out. Last\, but not least\, rainwater is collected and stored in two 5\,000 gallon tanks underground and used for both domestic water and irrigation. \nArchitect: Risa Boyer Architecture\nContractor: Don Tankersley Construction\nLandscape Designer: Lilyvilla Gardens \nBubbles and Bites in Council Crest\nWednesday\, July 17\n5:30-7:30pm\nSouthwest Portland (address will be shared upon registration) \nRegister Now\nAFO Members – $70\nNon-AFO Members – $85\nStudent & Emerging Professionals – $30 \nOur summer Dine & Design event series is a fundraiser benefitting AFO programming\, including Architects in Schools and AFO scholarships. SUMMARY:Dine & Design: A Toast to Brooks Gunsul
DESCRIPTION:Toast the impact of Oregon Architect and AFO co-founder Brooks Gunsul.\nBrooks has touched the personal and professional lives of many renowned architects today\, and AFO is pleased to celebrate his impact this summer. Chat with Brooks and friends at ZGF’s newly-renovated office and deck over tasty treats and cool beverages. Raise a glass in honor of Brooks’ leadership and vision! \n“Brooks’ ability to compliment a good design concept with an innovative technical design interpretation down to the smallest detail was remarkable\, and in no small measure was responsible for many of the design accolades ZGF was awarded. Many architects who were part of the ZGF family over the years\, myself included\, benefited from his knowledge and guidance.”\n– Ron Gronowski\, former ZGF Principal \nAbout Brooks\nWhen Brooks Gunsul learned of Norm Zimmer’s aspirations to transform Wolff and Zimmer into a modern architecture practice\, he decided to spend a Saturday morning working with Zimmer and was sold. He joined the firm in 1959 and became a partner\, along with Bob Frasca\, in 1966. Soon renamed the Zimmer Gunsul Frasca Partnership\, Gunsul took the helm of Technical Design\, translating concepts and executing design detailing and documentation. \nA graduate of Washington State University\, he nurtured ZGF’s early relationship with Kaiser Permanente to design hospitals in Los Angeles\, Oakland\, and Hawaii\, then Portland. His hand is seen in many of ZGF’s most foundational projects\, including the Justice Center\, KOIN Tower\, Oregon Convention Center\, and Banfield Light Rail stations. His portfolio also includes Portland International Airport Terminal Expansions\, Bellevue Library\, California Science Center\, and the National Institutes of Health Mark O. Hatfield Clinical Research Center\, to name a few. Gunsul began his transition of leadership to ZGF’s Technical Design in 1989\, until he fully retired in 2000. He was a founding member of the Architecture Foundation of Oregon and has supported the organization through philanthropic giving\, including leaving a substantial gift to AFO’s endowment with a match challenge for others to do the same. \nA Toast to Brooks Gunsul\nWednesday\, July 24\n5:30-7:30pm\nZGF Architects\, Portland \nRegister Now\nAFO Members – $75\nNon-AFO Members – $85\nStudent & Emerging Professionals – $30 \nOur summer Dine & Design event series is a fundraiser benefitting AFO programming\, including Architects in Schools and AFO scholarships.
