SUMMARY:Street Art and the Urban Landscape
DESCRIPTION:Explore the spectacular street art in the Central Eastside Industrial District!\nWe’re partnering with the Portland Street Art Alliance (PSAA) to bring you a unique view of urban landscapes. PSAA director Tiffany Conklin will speak about the city’s rich history of murals and graffiti art\, active community art projects\, and a range of topics related to street art\, graffiti\, and the politics of public space. Delve into the vibrant fabric that weaves artists\, structures\, and communities together while exploring how collaboration with street art can impact architecture. \nWe will host a short reception at Bora Architects after the tour concludes to enjoy refreshments and company. \nPlease meet the tour leader inside the parking art-filled garage. Tours are “rain or shine” events and we recommend that attendees wear appropriate shoes and clothing while also carrying water. Bathroom access is only available at the tour starting and ending point (at 1615 SE 3rd Ave) and may not be accessible during the tour. Attendees are encouraged to plan accordingly. \nAbout PSAA\nPortland Street Art Alliance provides access to resources\, networking platforms\, and professional development opportunities for Pacific Northwest street artists. PSAA has facilitated commissioned work resulting in over a million dollars paid to working artists and managed hundreds of private and publicly funded street art projects\, collaborating with hundreds of artists in the region. PSAA serves hundreds of community members each year through educational programming\, tours\, and community events. PSAA is actively transforming the public art landscape by developing more inclusive place-based programs which aim to increase access to art for everyone in the city. \nStreet Art and the Urban Landscape\nThursday\, September 12\n5:00-7:00pm\nThe Electric Blocks\, 1615 SE 3rd Ave\, Portland\nReception at Bora Architects to follow \nRegister Now\nThis event is free to AFO members including current Architects in Schools volunteers.
