SUMMARY:Creative Spark: An Architects in Schools Celebration & Design Competition
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a lively evening to celebrate our flagship Architects in Schools program and spark creativity among intergenerational designers!\nCompeting designers from DLR Group\, ZGF Architects\, Skanska\, INTEGRUS\, Scott Edwards Architecture\, Interface Engineering\, Opsis Architecture\, Lease Crutcher Lewis\, Mackenzie\, and NBBJ Design have imagined a space or feature “In Motion\,” playing on the idea of movement at Mount Tabor Park in SE Portland. Who will judge the best design? You guessed it: student participants from this spring’s Architects in Schools program. Don’t worry\, you will get to cast your vote for the People’s Choice award. \nAbout Architects in Schools (AiS)\nThe AiS program introduces Oregon’s youngest design-thinkers to the power and possibilities of design with the end goal of creating lifelong learners and critical thinkers who have a voice in their community. The program has grown to serving more than 5\,000 elementary and middle school students across the state of Oregon. \nAiS pairs classroom teachers with design professionals\, provides teacher/design professional training and residency preparation\, design professional classroom involvement\, supply fund support for low-income schools and a public exhibit of student work at the end of the residency period. In addition\, AFO offers a week long virtual summer camp based on AiS curricula for children ages 8-12. The program receives invaluable support from over 175 design and building professionals and their firms around Oregon. \nCreative Spark: An Architects in Schools Celebration & Design Competition\nThursday\, May 28\n5:30-8:00pm\nDLR Group\n110 SW Yamhill St Suite 105\, Portland \nRegister  |  Become a Sponsor\nNeed help with OneCause\, our ticketing platform? SUMMARY:Architects in Schools Summer Camp
DESCRIPTION:  \nJoin us July 26-30\, 2021 for our second annual Architects in Schools Summer Camp! During this camp\, students will explore the world of architecture and learn how to design a building for a client with different needs. The virtual camp is free and recommended for youth ages 8-12. Register by 5pm PST on July 12 to participate. \n  \nThis year’s camp theme is They All Saw a Building: Designing for Everyone’s Needs. The camp will center on equity focused architecture and challenge students to think about how people of different backgrounds\, abilities and cultures may experience the same space in different ways. Students will be introduced to technical architecture practices such as drawing\, planning and model making\, while exploring the social and cultural implications that architecture has on the world – because architecture impacts everybody! They will apply this knowledge to their own design of a building that puts the needs of their client first. \n  \nThe camp is entirely virtual – meaning students can participate from home. To engage in the camp\, participants will need a computer\, tablet\, or other device with access to internet. Everyday\, we will email you the digital lesson including hands-on activities\, reading\, thinking exercises\, and pre-recorded videos. There will also be a live Zoom session everyday from 12:30-1:30pm PST. The live sessions are optional\, but we do recommend students try to join as many as possible to fully experience the camp content. \n  \nWe will mail free art supplies to participants who are experiencing financial barriers. Please specify on your registration form if you need supplies sent to you. The art supplies and materials that participants will need throughout the camp include paper\, pencils\, coloring tools (i.e. colored pencils\, markers or crayons)\, scissors\, glue or tape\, a brown paper grocery bag and recycled materials (i.e. cardboard\, toilet paper rolls\, cereal boxes\, shoe boxes\, plastic bottles\, etc.). \n  \nParticipation in the camp is free. We are accepting donations so we can send camp materials to families who have barriers to accessing them. This will allow all children to participate regardless of need. Please consider giving to the Architecture Foundation of Oregon to supply all participants with materials and to help us offer free educational programs like this camp. Donate here. Thank you! \n  \nIf you have any questions about the camp\, please contact Architects in Schools Director\, Kim Knowles at kim@af-oregon.org. \nREGISTER NOW\nREGISTRATION DEADLINE: July 12\, 5pm PST \n  \nWould you like to connect with students throughout the camp and inspire them through architecture? Sign up to volunteer during our daily live Zoom sessions! Submit a volunteer form. \n  \nSpecial thank you to our sponsors
