SUMMARY:Frasca Event: Creating a Cultural Commons
DESCRIPTION:The opening of the Rothko Pavilion marks a transformative new chapter for the Portland Art Museum\, significantly elevating Portland’s cultural landscape. Join us for a conversation exploring the architecture and design of the Pavilion and the architectural history of PAM that bought us here.\nThis discussion will examine the schematic concept\, use of materials\, interactive relationships\, and urban presence on the Park Blocks and within the city. We will consider how contemporary museum design can shape public life and open cultural gateways. Panelists will address the relationship of architecture\, art\, and civic identity; illustrating how the new addition creates dialogue between historic and contemporary spaces across the Museum campus. \nJoin AFO and the Oregon Historical Society for a conversation centered on design\, placemaking\, and the outlook for cultural institutions\, inspired by one of Portland’s most noteworthy recent architectural projects. \nSpeakers \n\nAndrew Smith\, AIA\, Hennebery Eddy Architects\nTim Eddy\, FAIA\, Hennebery Eddy Architects\nChelsea McCann\, ASLA\, Walker Macy\nAlix Meier Goodman\, Portland Art Museum Board Member\nModerated by Jeanne Giordano\n\nFrasca Events honor the late visionary leader\, Robert Frasca\, FAIA\, a co-founder of ZGF Architects.
