Intimate Design Tours Across Oregon
AFO’s Design Trail explores design, engineering, and construction innovations throughout the state of Oregon and the PNW. This annual event is an opportunity for design enthusiasts to embark on intimate tours and meet the creative leadership of cities beyond Portland.

Proceeds from the Design Trail help fund AFO’s impactful mission and educational programs like Architects in Schools, Formation Mentorship, and Scholarship Program. The program appeals to all design enthusiasts and we welcome anyone interested in exploring our region’s superb built environment! 2025 Design Trail: Columbia River Gorge
The inaugural Design Trail in 2025 explored sites along the Columbia River Gorge in Hood River and Bingen, Washington, featuring projects such as the Lightwell Hotel, the Union Building Lofts, the Outpost, and the Society Hotel. The group had the opportunity to see both new construction and renovation projects, hearing from the designers, developers, and owners whose passion and leadership have changed the landscape of the Gorge for residents and visitors alike.
“Seeing the projects from the architects and developers perspective, let us see the backstory and history and successes. It also allowed us to tour properties we may not have had access to otherwise.”
