Architects in Schools Summer Camp

Have you ever wondered what cities will look like 25 years from now? How will they grow to accommodate more people? How tall will buildings be? How will they be inclusive of all people? How will people get around the city and what will people do for fun? Spend a week, this July, diving into the world of architecture and urban planning to Design Your Future City!

Join us, Monday, July 20 – Friday, July 24, 2020, for the Architects in Schools Summer Camp, a free, virtual, self-paced camp, recommended for youth ages 8-12. Register students by July 10th to participate.

By the end of the week, students will have a basic understanding of architecture, urban planning, the design process, architectural styles, why the design of cities should be inclusive of all people, and more, all while building critical thinking and problem solving skills. Plus, they’ll have drawings and models to show for it!

The camp is entirely virtual – meaning students participate from the comfort of their homes. It is also self-paced. We will email participants daily instructions to follow at their own time and pace. To engage in the camp, participants will need a computer, tablet, or other device with access to the email address listed on your registration form.

We will be mailing free art supplies and materials to participants who do not have access. Please specify on your registration form if you need supplies sent to you. The art supplies and materials that participants will need throughout the camp include paper, pencils, coloring tools (i.e. colored pencils, markers or crayons), scissors, tape, recycled materials (i.e. cardboard, toilet paper rolls, cereal boxes, shoe boxes, plastic bottles, etc.) toothpicks, marshmallows and straws.

Participation in the camp is free. We are accepting donations so we can send materials to families who don’t have access. Please consider giving to the Architecture Foundation of Oregon to supply all participants with materials and to help us offer free educational programs like this camp. Donate here. Thank you!
