Designing for Loss, with Space for Joy

August 28, 2019 @ 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm

$25

AFO is pleased to introduce a new series of events that highlight the positive social impact of architecture in the community. This summer, explore three stellar nonprofit headquarters recently designed by Oregon architecture firms. You’ll have a chance to hear from each organization’s leader, learn about their missions and discover how the spaces were designed to enhance each unique vision. Tours, mingling and nibbles will follow.

The second event of the three part series:

How do you design for mourning and for joy?  How do you create spaces that help families deal with death? Join us at the internationally renowned Dougy Center to explore their specialized program of support and the safe spaces created to help facilitate the variety of ways children grieve.  Hear Brennan Wood and Donna Schuurman from The Dougy Center and Sarah Cantine from Scott|Edwards Architecture discuss the intricacies of creating a healing space for children dealing with loss.

Hosted by The Dougy Center & Scott | Edwards Architecture.

Check out the other two events in our new series:

July 25: A Welcoming Space for All Abilities, Community Vision & Waterleaf Architecture

September 17: Reflecting an Environmentally Conscious Mission, The Nature Conservancy & LEVER Architecture
